The tamaVet® rotavirus test is used for the rapid and reliable detection of Rotavirus antigens in faeces samples from pigs, cattle and horses. The test is suitable for the early detection of suspected rotavirus or in the case of clinical symptoms in cattle, goats, pigs and horses.

Rotaviruses are among the most important pathogens that can cause severe intestinal diseases, especially in young animals of various species. The virus infects the intestinal cells and, with a very short incubation period (12 hours to about 3 days), leads to drastic electrolyte shifts and cell death with resulting poor digestion due to the enterotoxin NSP4, among other things.The result can be severe diarrhoea with massive dehydration. In neonatal calf diarrhea (NCD), rotaviruses are among the pathogens most frequently involved. As rotaviruses are stable in faeces and relatively resistant to common disinfectants, it is extremely difficult to prevent further contamination of livestock. For this reason, early and reliable diagnosis is of great importance in order to detect and treat infections at an early stage.

The test is suitable for the early detection of rotavirus infection in suspected cases or clinical symptoms in cattle, pigs and horses.
