What should you look for in an ovulation test?
The most important criterion is the optimal detection limit so that an increase in the hLH value in the urine can be detected. Shortly before ovulation, the hLH level increases 10 to 20 times. This messenger substance is an absolute indicator to know early on when ovulation will occur.
The lower detection limit should therefore not be too low, also because the individual LH concentration in the female body varies from woman to woman. Tests that are too sensitive with 10 mIU or 20 mIU may already strike too early. With a value of 30mIU hLH/ml this is excluded and only an increase that is really relevant is measured!
How the SD-One Step Ovulation Test works
Human luteinising hormone (hLH)*, which is normally only present in small amounts in the urine, plays an important role in regulating ovulation and ovarian function during the menstrual cycle. About 24-36 hours before the mature egg is expelled from the follicle, the LH concentration rises steeply by a factor of 10 to 20 (LH surge) and reaches its highest value in the middle of the cycle - recognisable by the hLH concentration in the urine.
With this test for ovulation, the increase in this hLH concentration in the urine can be detected, which makes it possible to narrow down the period for ovulation (also called follicular rupture or ovulation).
*Luteinising hormone (LH) ("yellow-colouring hormone", from Latin luteus).
How reliable and safe is the pregnancy test?
This early pregnancy test has a scientifically proven accuracy of > 99%. The reliability is particularly high. Nevertheless, in rare cases the result may be ambiguous or difficult to interpret because it is an early test. If, for example, the test line is particularly faintly visible, please carry out a new test after 3 days using morning urine, which contains a higher concentration of hCG.
