This EtG rapid test can be used as an aid to initiate or observe therapeutic measures. The test provides only a visual, qualitative and preliminary analytical result. To obtain a reliable analytical result, another, more specific chemical method must be used.
Gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC/MS) or liquid chromatography/mass spectroscopy (LC/MS) are the preferred confirmatory methods. Ethyl glucuronide (EtG) is a non-oxidative side metabolite of ethyl alcohol that is formed in the body via glucuronidation after alcohol consumption.
EtG is formed by in vivo conjugation of ethanol with glucuronic acid by UDP glucuronosyl transferase.
